What: GOES Satelites stands for Geostationary Operational Environmental Satellite.
It is a just a satelite that different countries of the world use to record data in many different forms. Using
this data meteoroligists can forecast the weather for large regions of the world that they can't have weather equipment.
The Geostationary in GOES means it is stationary around the world. The Operational means it works in space. The Environmental
means it records the environment without physically being on the earth. When: The first GOES Satelite was launched in 1974. They have recently been launching several other satelites that have been launched so they can record all parts of the world.
Why: GOES satelites have been used to monitor surface data on weather of parts of the world we cannot record. For example a GOES satelite would search the sea for potential hurricanes off the Coast of Florida.
Where: The GOES satelites are situated all around the world according to their orbit. These type of satellites stationary(thats why its called Geostationary) in space above earth. As the Earth turns more data can be taken from around the world.
How: The GOES satelites work by using infrared, visual pictures, and many other devices that record weather. With this information Meteorologists can interpret this information and make a forecast.
